Introduction

Almost like another Age of Exploration, the Age of Imperialism was a time where Western nations expanded there nations not only for trade but for total control of underdeveloped nations in Africa and Asia.  Africa was considered a dark place or a place that has not been civilized.  The European nations saw this continent as a great source of new and untouched resources that they could use for the growing industrial age along with expanding their nations and culture all over the planet.  My objective for this blog is to explain how the European nations exploited the underdeveloped countries of the world along with showing different opinions of how imperialism was looked upon then and now.  An essential question for this unit is how the European nations who participated in this imperialistic expansion treated the places they took over and what they did to them.  Different nations controlled and used their new colonies in different ways.  The Belgians were known to have ruled the Congo brutally in a way that was almost considered genocide.  The English who had control over India did not really pay attention to the cultures of the people such as the respect for different animals.   The English used animal fat to seal cartridges without thinking about the consequences.  Overall the Western nations did not care much about preserving the cultures of the places they took over.
